Spotted this one by the side of the road along the SE coast of Maui.

According to this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasteracantha_cancriformis G. cancriformis is extremely variable in coloration, and G. mammosa is a synonym of it (considered to be the same species).
Yes, looks the same to me. There seems to be some disagreement on that page, though about whether this is Gasteracantha cancriformis or Gasteracantha mammosa. Anyone have expertise to distinguish between them?
