Field Notes

Description:

Very small. Long claw-like nails on the front legs with flipper shaped back legs. Had a pointed mouth with the top jaw laying over the bottom jaw. Box shaped shell with a black and brown design.

Habitat:

Forest or high grassland

Notes:

He had seemed to have fallen off a ledge. My mom had picked him up and put him off the street. I could get a better look of what he was. He had some shell damage and loads of sand in and out of his shell. He had sand in his eyes as well.

@jamiewgoodspeed yes it is! Very sweet little guy I think he will be ok. My mom put up on higher ground, so he should be ok. Thanks for the help
this looks a lot like a juvenile gopher tortoise if it is these are on the endangered species list and its good that you saved him... i hope he was alright.
