Found this fella in our garden in Cornwall (UK). Is he a beetle or true bug?

definitely Meloe sp., read more about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meloe
Thanks for moving to the correct section. He doesn't have the T section wing case of a beetle, more of a Y structure like a true bug.
It's a beetle, I believe a kind of Oil Beetle (Meloe sp.). You can change from "other" to Arthropod.
