Field Notes

Description:

huge blue morpho

Habitat:

amazon, tropical rainforest

Notes:

Of all the blue morphos I spotted in the Amazon, I was never able to get a dorsal shot. They don't like to rest with their wings open, which is really unfortunate.

Thanks bayucca, I've changed it to just the genus until further notice from you.
Caligo teucer looks in my eyes different. The hindwing as different markings at the margin and there should be a whitish band on the forewing: http://www.flickr.com/photos/83287919@N00/3298306795/ http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/caligo_teucer_ecuadora_live.htm I will try to get closer...
That looks right to me Gerardo, unless bayucca disagrees, I have updated the ID.
It looks like a Teucer Owl butterfly / Caligo teucer very cool :)
