Bold Jumper
Phidippus audax
42.3498, -74.0187
Field Notes
Description:
A large jumping spider in the family Salticidae, Phidippus audax, the Bold Jumper, is no less than audacious! When I was holding this spider about 30 cm from the ground, it had no problem jumping right out of my hand, or sometimes even falling backward! After it had crawled all over me, I had silk from the spider all over my hand! I love the green near the mouth! The abdomen has three white spots, as well as two right at the apex of the body.
Habitat:
Found on a rabbit cage.
Notes:
First time I ever held a jumping spider! It was awesome. I was amazed at how docile and soft they were. First of year, as well!
