Field Notes

Description:

Flowerheads grow at the ends of the stems. In many species, the flowerheads contain two types of flowers, small fertile flowers in the middle of the flowerhead, and large, sterile bract-like flowers in a ring around the edge of each flowerhead. Flowers are produced from early spring to late autumn.

Habitat:

Asia (China, Japan, Korea, the Himalayas, and Indonesia), America. Cultivated it can grow almost everywhere-you can see loads of rhododendron gardens throughout Europe etc.

Notes:

If anybody can identify the exact species of it, i would be grateful :)

Hi Ursula. Isn't it brilliant how the petals change colour depending on the soil chemistry! It's nice to see the variety of plants we have locally. You should join the Plants of Britain mission: www.projectnoah.org/missions/22624101 - Happy spotting!
