Field Notes

Description:

Brown and white bird, marked as shown, the size of a typical hawk. Brown eyestripe is diagnostic.

Habitat:

Fishing in a large, artificial reservoir near downtown Colorado Springs, surrounded by lawns, residential neighborhoods, and some commercial buildings.

Notes:

One of at least six (6) individuals observed hovering, diving, and flying off with fish prey.
