Field Notes

Description:

A pair of Sandhill Cranes in a pasture with Bulls looking for food

Habitat:

Pasture lands and marshy or swampy areas where frogs and other foods can be easily found...except this year when we continue to have snowfall and very cold evening temperatures

Notes:

We've had a pair of Sandhill Cranes in this area for at least four years now. There are another pair on a dirt road (pasture land as well) heading towards Glendalough State Park, another pair off 5 and even more near Little Round Lake off Hwy 5 as well. I usually only see them at dusk and dawn but got lucky this day catching them out during mid day, perhaps due to hunger and having a harder time finding food this year.
