Description:

About 4ft high in the picture, I have seen them grow to about 5 in their prime. Thick, purplish stem with millions of tiny white things on it. Some kind of nettle?

Habitat:

Northwest United States, CA. Humboldt County.

Nettles don't have compound leaves. I'm sure this is devils club. We have it on the oregon coast
