Field Notes

Habitat:

spotted in driveway of riverfront home

Notes:

This vulture is eating an eastern gray squirrel that had been dropped in the driveway by a red-shouldered hawk (photo #4). Earlier in the day we returned and startled the hawk who flew off with the squirrel but didn't clear the garden fence and the squirrel was knocked from its talons. I put the squirrel on the top of the fence hoping the hawk would retrieve it. But when he did pick it up, he was immediately harassed by a pair of crows nesting nearby and he dropped it again. The vulture discovered it a short time later.
