Western Giant Swallowtail
Papilio rumiko
33.135, -117.034
Field Notes
Description:
Small caterpillar - early instar, less than 1/4 inch long, brown and yellow in color. The face is black with a yellow, upside down "Y" shape. When I first saw it on the leaf, it looked like bird scat, not moving and was so small. Of course, I took a pic anyway and was surprised to see this!
This is the first instar of this cat.
Habitat:
Orange tree leaf in backyard.
