Field Notes

Description:

One of the photos the bird has a darker head, white throat and brighter yellow belly. The others the birds are greyish brown heads and wings with some rufuous color, light ash colored throat, longer thicker bill then the smaller flycatchers and bushy crested top.Long tail that has some rufous color in.
The bird's call separates these from the Greater crested Flycatcher

Habitat:

Spotted these flying for prey in a meadow and perching in the bushes, then would also be seen flying in the tree cover.

The first two are Ash throated, I'm looking to see if the one with the yellow belly is one too. Ash throated shouldn't have a bright yellow belly

Not that bad. Almost flat with a slight incline. Take the Mitchell Canyon trail and they were flying between the meadows on the right and the trees over the trail. My battery ran out before I could get to the other birds I was after. Will be back this weekend for Black Diamond Mines Canyon Wren and Mitchell Canyon for the other types of flycatchers and hopefully a Calliope Hummingbird.

Maybe a Say's Phoebe? Phoebes do have crests sometimes and so does a California Towhee. BTW, I saw something unusual.Do you think it is what I think it is? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/21428340

I thought that too but it would be considered a rare sighting for one this far west. We've had birds from far away but I've would have gotten a "rare bird alert" email if it was a Great Crested.
