Description:
A strikingly marked raptor of wetlands in the southeastern United States, the Swallow-tailed Kite captures flying insects or plucks insects and lizards from the tops of trees. This one circled the parking lot trees until it flushed a sparrow for a meal.
Habitat:
Louisiana State Welcome Center at Atchafalaya River has a small stream, pond and wildflower area. This welcome center is listed as a birding site because of the surrounding woods and open area.
