Glowworm
4.3999, 117.888
Field Notes
Description:
A wingless female firefly of the Lamprigera genus. Found it signalling a mate by flashing it's light-emitting organs at the tip of it's abdomen (by bioluminescence chemical reaction). Body very flexible as seen in the photographs and video above.
Habitat:
At the base of a forest tree, close to the forest floor, in Tawau Hills Park, Tawau, Sabah.
Notes:
>>>Map accuracy: 50m diameter. Spotted this during our night walk with Dan in one of the forest trail. My very first glow worm spotting!
