Field Notes

Description:

This multicolored little fish (1.5 inches long) is often seen among the Eastern mosquitofish in my freshwater canal in western Boca Raton, FL. It stays in the shallow water by the canal bank. It is in fact a mosquitofish also, but a genetic anomaly.

Habitat:

In an inland fresh water canal in western Boca Raton, FL

Notes:

This fish is always seen with no other similar fish, and among a group of mosquitofish. He looks completely different from the mosquitofish. It is difficult to photograph clearly as it moves quickly.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

This is a mosquito fish as well its not to uncommon to see one or more among the large groups of normal colored ones just a genetic thing that pops up once in awhile in males of the species.
