Field Notes

Description:

Belongs to the crow family. Large thick bill, black feathers, shaggy throat feathers, deep caw, wedged tail. Between 27-28 inches long. Wing span 40-59 inches. Can live up to 21 years in the wild. Adults mate for life, each mated pair defend a territory.

Habitat:

Ravens are found in most habitats. Seen on both the North Rim and South Rim of the canyon.

Notes:

Common Ravens are known for spectacular aerobatic displays, such as flying in loops or interlocking talons with each other in flight. Ravens are also one of only a few wild animals who make their own toys. They are often observed flying over both the North and South Rims.
