I haven't unearthed the exact variety of this myriostoma, but here is some info.

Notes:

The coolest looking mushroom! This I found in a nature preserve in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, CA

Yes, Max, I removed it from that mission. After a little more research I are that this is a variety of Earthstar, or Myriostoma. They are quite fabulous in form, indeed.
