Field Notes

Description:

Small golden brown butterfly, double rings on underside of each secondary pair visible on upperside when open, bullseye shape, luminous pale blue centre, rimmed with black, then gold brown then rimmed with darker orange, then pale blue, rimmed with orange again, gold brown, orange outline then main gold brown on rest of wings, edges lined with ripply blue & orange, feathery ends to wings. If butterflies possess a happy carefree disposition then this one certainly had that - it seemed to be enjoying discovering what was around & happy to just be alive.

Habitat:

Found in dry woodland environment in north east NSW.
