Field Notes

Description:

A female rhinoceros beetle.

Habitat:

Observed on the cement pad between two houses, surrounded by a large semi-urban yard & garden, near a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

This (and perhaps other) species is decimating the coconut trees (Cocos nucifer) in my yard and in the surrounding area.
