Field Notes

Description:

Brown body with males having a black and white face and females having brown and tan faces.

Habitat:

Grassy field in thorn scrub area near the bunkhouses and offices.

Notes:

I was sitting quietly on the porch eating lunch when I saw this group of 5 walk out from under a bush. They were crossing a field and a road, and were very skittish about it. When they would hear something they would all run back to the safety of the bush they originally came from. They were in a line behind one another, and when they each got to the road, they would look both ways, back up a little bit, get a running start then fly over the road, they wouldn't run across it. It was very special to me to get to watch them do this since they are one of my favorite birds and I don't see them very often.
