Field Notes

Description:

About 17-20 millimeters in length, male smaller than female (on top in the image). Pale orange , commonly with black mid-dorsal stripe as shown.

Habitat:

Degraded Sonoran Desert grassland in an urban-industrial area. Mesquite, creosote bush, prickly-pear cacti and cholla cacti are dominant plants.

Notes:

This pair is on rabbitbrush flowers, where the species is frequently common in late fall.
