Field Notes

Description:

Large finch with large tiangular bill. Male has cinnamon underside with all black head. Female (center picture)has a more buff color underside with stripe running over eyes and faint stripe in center of head.

Habitat:

Comon in open woodlands and forests. This one was at our feeder in Rio Rancho - perhaps just passing through as we have not seen him for three days now.
