Field Notes
Description:
A grey fly about 10 mm long, with grey and black bands on abdomen and diffuse stripes on thorax. Abdomen appeared narrow and slightly flattened. Red eyes were slightly separated.
The striking feature in this fly was the length of the legs. Legs were long holding the body high. When the fly landed on the tree trunk, the legs seemed to splay out in unison, flattening the fly against the trunk.
Body was sparsely covered with stiff setae.
Habitat:
Spotted several of these flying around and resting on the trunk of a Eucalyptus tree ( E.maculata)
Notes:
? Dexiin fly (Family: Tachinidae)
Looks a little like Rutilotrixa lateralis and some features similar to Senostoma without the long proboscis. Need help with the ID. thanks.
