Field Notes

Description:

quite young and small (maybe 1-2 inches long). Near the edge of a thick coniferous woodland area fairly close to the lake (maybe 200m away). Apparently there are only two toad species in the UK Bufo bufo and Epidalea calamita but supposedly Epidalea calamita has a yellowish line on it's back along the spine area so I guess my spotting is Bufo bufo. However this was a young one; maybe the yellowish line develops when it's older?

Thanks Daniele; that's good to know
Hi Lipase! I would say that based on the copper-coloured eyes you have Bufo bufo. On the natterjack the eyes are a silvery gold.
