Description:

very large 3' to 4' snake dark on top with a lighter belly

Habitat:

ponds and marshy areas

Notes:

I tried several times to get near this snake, but every time I got with in 6 yards of it, it would slip into the water. The snake was sunning itself on dock of small pond.

This snake is neither a cottonmouth or a yellow-bellied water snake. It is a Diamond-backed Watersnake - Nerodia rhombifer. Great Spotting!

Obviously not a cottonmouth........Yellow-bellied Water Snake.

this is not a water moccasin, no pits on the face and scales are wrong it is most likely a northern water snake. it is definately a neeodia type watersnake.
