Field Notes

Description:

A large, conspicuous water kingfisher, the only member of that group commonly found in the northern United States and Canada. This is the same little pond where I've spotted ducks, geese, and beaver signs. I'm impressed by the biodiversity present amidst warehouse and office complexes!

Habitat:

This bird's breeding habitat is near inland bodies of waters or coasts across most of Canada, Alaska and the United States.

Notes:

Spotted at a wooded detention/retention pond in an office building complex in Kennesaw, GA
