Description:

Slightly larger than a robin, this bird is quite variable in color depending on gender (females are dull brown), and how the light hits the bird. Males are often iridescent blue or violet, sometimes with a bronzed appearance as well.

Habitat:

Several of these birds were frequenting the shoreline of Prospect Lake, a large artificial reservoir near downtown Colorado Springs. Surrounding landscape is lawns, residential neighborhoods, playgrounds, and some commercial buildings.

Notes:

This is a highly urbanized species.
