Woolly Bear Caterpillar

How much do you know about woolly bear caterpillars, or should I say their scientific name “Pyrrharctia Isabella”? Do you know what they eat or where they live? Do you know their life cycle?

First of all, they are black and orange. Also, they about are 1 and a ½ inches. Also, black gives color to the red-orange color as they grow up. When the woolly bear becomes almost all orange they go into their chrysalis stage. Also, when it gets frightened it curls up into a ball.

The Pyrrharctia Isabella eats many things. Some things they eat are ferns, grasses, corn, barely, lamb quarters, violet, and dandelion.
Ever wondered the life cycle? They hatch two times a year. They eat, hibernate, and while they hibernate they produce a natural anti-freeze chemical so they don’t freeze in the winter. After that, they become a Pyrrharctia Isabella tiger moth.

Some places you can find them are in the Great Lakes, New England, Mid-Atlantic, Plains, Rocky Mountains, North west, Texas, California, Florida, South-west, and Southeast.
