Field Notes

Description:

The nest is most commonly located 1.5–4.5 m (5–15 ft) above the ground and is built by the female alone. This robin prepared her nest above a downspout and at first I thought it would not be completed as it was very messy and the contents kept falling out. She managed to finish a sturdy nest, however. Both the mother and father are very actively feeding the four nestlings, who now are poking their heads above the nest continuously. They should be fledging in about a week. The last photo shows a parent removing a fecal sac.

Thanks, Ava. The nestlings are fledging and I'll put up a series of that as well.
