Field Notes

Description:

A ant-like insect on a leaf. This is the first time I have spotted this species as it is not very common. This insect is also recorded in an insect guide book "Fascinating Insects of Southeast Asia ~ L.E.O. Braack" that I have brought along during this trip. It is a Helopeltis species of Plant bugs (Miridae) that are pests to many plant species including cocoa and tea.

Habitat:

Live on some species of plants here in St Peter Catholic Church in Kampung Kadazan, Kunak, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 10km diameter. This one is about 1cm in length. I have measured another one in the same area at 8mm in length from forehead to wingtip. Possibly a H. clavifer, H. bakeri or H. bradyi.
