Field Notes

Description:

A species of red marine algae, yet to be identified. At first I thought I'd spotted a seahorse or sea dragon, but alas, that wasn't the case. An interesting organism, complete with it's beautiful deep red colour, and still attached to its holdfast. Note also the tiny white organism attached to it! (4th photo). PS: I've contacted the Australian Museum in Sydney for their assistance to ID this specimen.

Habitat:

Spotted in the rockpools at North Avoca Beach, on the NSW Central Coast. Really heavy seas the week prior had thrown a lot of seaweed up onto the rock platform.
