Field Notes

Description:

This small falcon has a blue gray cap with a rust colored spot, white face with black facial markings and large black markings on the back of the head. Upper body is rust colored with black barring on the lower back. Lower body is light tan to white with rust colored markings.

Habitat:

Open areas such as fields and grasslands can be seen hovering slowly over bare spots and perched on post and telephone wires in search of food.

Notes:

This small falcon is also known as the Sparrow Hawk.
