Field Notes

Description:

A darker sugary lerp shell with an unusual nymph inside (pics 3 and 4). While the insect looks unusual, I am guessing it is a Glycaspis based on the shell. The white one next to it is Glycaspis brimblecombei. There is a crawler beside this lerp insect nymph.

Habitat:

A solitary specimen on an established Eucalyptus.

Notes:

This is the first and only spotting of this particular species.

Comments (1)

Based on the 'filled in' nature of this lerp shell, it may be another example of these psyllids that build one shell over the top of another fibrous shell. http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_softbugs/ClamFibrousLerpInsect.htm
