Description:
The size of a blackbird, the Brown-headed Cowbird is easily mistaken for a....blackbird. Male is iridescent blue-black with brown head. Female is all-brown.
Habitat:
This pair was seeking the shade of an ornamental pine tree in an otherwise open landscape around Prospect Lake, a large artificial reservoir near downtown Colorado Springs. Surrounding area is lawns, playgrounds, residential neighborhoods, and some commercial buildings.
Notes:
Cowbirds lay their eggs in the nests of other birds, forcing the other species to care for its young.
