Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized butterfly with black and white markings on the dorsal side of its wings. There is also blue or green markings on the thorax of the butterfly.

Habitat:

These were fluttering about in between forest fragments, in bushy areas. It was humid and cool, with a stream/canal flowing not far from here. It was also near the local hot springs (which is now a tourist destination for the island).

Notes:

I found two of these and by looking at the markings on the thorax, I think one is male and the other female, can't tell which is which though.

Hi Little Rex. This is another Neptis sp., matching Neptis pampanga boholica from Mindanao. Regards! http://www.neutron.phys.ethz.ch/Lepidoptera/Collecting/2015/2015%20Phillipines/AZ15-0203R.jpg http://www.neutron.phys.ethz.ch/Lepidoptera/Collecting/2015/2015%20Phillipines/AZ15-0203V.jpg
Oh, ahaha! Apparently, my hand slipped. Haha, how silly of me. Thanks for clearing that up Agnes!
Hi Rex, pls transfer this lovely spotting from the Odonata in the Philippines to the Butterflies in the Philippines mission - http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/15553007. Thanks much!
Hi Little Rex, pls include this lovely spotting in our Butterflies in the Philippines mission - http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/15553007. Thanks!!
Hello. There are 2 Neptis species/ssp in the Camiguin de Mindanao area (http://pbh-butterflies.yolasite.com/philippine-butterflies.php): Neptis mindorana pseudosoma, and Neptis cymela carvinus. Based on the available images, the spotting is most possibly a Neptis mindorana pseudosoma. Neptis cymela - http://www.globaltwitcher.com/gt2/artspec.asp?thingid=138285 Neptis mindorana - http://globaltwitcher.auderis.se/gt2/artspec.asp?thingid=138286, http://pbh-butterflies.yolasite.com/philippine-butterflies.php.
It's alright bayucca, this'll be a great help! :D You're right, there really are a lot of Neptis species out there.
Sorry, cannot help you more than the genus. There are several species which look "identical". Might be Neptis hylas or Neptis leucoporos. My link is Neptis leucoporos. Maybe Agnes can help out.
