Field Notes

Description:

Belongs to family Iridaceae (perunike). The inflorescence photograph shows the short floral tube.

Habitat:

It is found across southern Europe to western Turkey where it is a common plant of cultivated or disturbed habitats. Historically there were also populations found north of the Mediterranean across western France in pine-rich or heathland habitats. However, the French populations may now all be extinct.

Listed as protected species!
