Leatherleaf
Chamaedaphne calyculata
40.7694, -73.1528
Field Notes
Description:
Native shrub that grows well near marsh/bog areas. Alternate, oblong leaves. Thick and leathery. Small, white bell-shaped flowers produced in the spring along the underside of the branches.
Habitat:
Growing along the edge of a marshy/bog area in Connetquot State Park, New York.
Notes:
A happy find when I was exploring near the water. A tea-like drink can be made from the leaves but boiling them is not recommended.
