Field Notes
Description:
Tall hairy annual or biennial, growing in large numbers and forming flowering massifs on edges of pathway. Lower leaves palmate, while the upper leaves are narrow lanceolate. Blue-violet flowers, about 2cm in length, with a long upturned spur.
Habitat:
Observed in mediterranean maquis, on rocky steep slopes bordering vineyards; famous "Dingač" vineyard slopes of Pelješac peninsula of Dubrovnik riviera.
Notes:
Larkspurs in general, containing alkaloid delphinine, are toxic to humans, causing severe digestive discomfort and vomiting if ingested, and skin irritation.
