Field Notes

Description:

Smallish 26cm, grey cuckoo with broadly barred belly and flanks. Male and grey female have grey breast and upperparts, blackish - grey unbarred tail and buffy underparts. immature and hepatic female have upperparts rufous brown, heavily barred and upperparts whitish. Resident race, lepidus of Sumatra and Java is small. Distinguished from Common and Indian Cuckoos by bolder, broader breast bars and song. Hepatic female ditinguished from other cuckoos by barred rump.

Habitat:

I found this on the savanah Cibunar - Ujung Kulon National Park, in open grass area.
