Description:
This series shows the amazing recuperative powers of white-tailed deer. This young doe, not quite a year old, broke her leg somehow in early February. She was hopping around with her leg dangling and obviously in pain and not in good condition. She had mucus in her eyes, no doubt from infection and it was a nasty wound. The second photo shows the wound a month later. Photo 3 shows her at the end of March, still keeping her leg suspended; she would only put it down briefly when running. The last three photos show her another month later, 26 April, now putting her weight on the leg. She will not lose the bulge in her leg from the wound but seems to be doing quite well now. I’ve named her Braveheart as she didn’t let the other deer being mean to her occasionally deter her from recovering (chasing her away, often right after the injury, but only once in a while now).
