Field Notes

Description:

Lovely millipedes like this one all have 2 pairs of legs per body segment (apart from the first few behind the head), whereas centipedes have 1 pair per segment. Millipedes are mostly herbivores and so are safe to handle, whereas centipedes are ferocious predators and some tropical species can pack a very painful bite! It's therefore important to know the difference!

Habitat:

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Ecuador
