Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful but variable orchid. The colour of the flowers range from pinkish mauve to purple and even white. The base of the labellum being much darker purple. The plants can grow up to 80cm in height. The flowers are on canes of 10-40cm long. It has been the floral emblem for Queensland since 1959.

Habitat:

Can live in a variety of habiats from swamps to rocky gullies. This one was spotted in coastal scrub at Punsand Bay on Cape York Peninsula Qld
