This snail was crossing the dirt path and others were on vegetation, tree trunks and one was on the side of a house.

injica, thanks for the ID suggestion! I think this might be the close relative Brown-lipped Snail. It has a dark brown rim over the opening. They seem to be variable in the pattern. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grove_snail
