Field Notes

Notes:

This was a hard-won series of shots! Logrunners favour dark, leafy forest floors in densely-canopied areas where they forage in the leaf litter for food. They also move quite quickly; as a result, it is incredibly difficult to get a decent picture of one! This is a male - I saw it along the Moran's Falls track in Lamington National Park. The females have a rusty-coloured breast. I did see a female the previous day but the shots were so poor I couldn't even identify the bird from the picture... it wasn't until I ID'd THIS series that I worked out what the other one was!

These birds are so elusive. We sometimes come across them while looking for lyrebirds, but they are always camera shy. Not as many in the mountains as there used to be - but this appears to be the same with most birds now in the particular region I've been working in for the past 20 years.
Thanks Kerry, Mac and Leanne. It was a challenge!!
Fantastic Shanna. Well done on grabbing these great shots :)
Cool! Haven't seen one of these before Shanna!
Thanks Christiane and Mauna!
I have seen them so often and only got 1 photo.. So well done to get the series.. :)
