Field Notes

Description:

Adult. 19 inches long. Small all dark heron, compact shape, blue-green back, reddish brown neck and chest with white streak. Orange legs and feet. Eats fish, crabs and insects.

Habitat:

Woodland brook (other habitats are shores and water edges with dense vegetation, salt marshes and streams)

Notes:

I came upon this bird in the water and it immediately flew into the trees and then I started taking photos. First time I have ever seen this bird.
