I think these birds are easier to approach because this was at a National Wildlife Refuge where lots of people walk by the birds and they get used to people.

Indeed.. it's very rare in my place you can get close to Grey or Blue Heron.. They are very shy birds. Except I found them on the tree, when they are nesting, but the photo would be not as good as yours. I like this pictures a lots
