Description:
The Anemone Stinkhorn, scientifically know as Aseroe rubra, is a common and widespread basidiomycete fungus that is recognisable for its distinct smell of rotting carrion.
Habitat:
it is found on most islands in the Pacific Ocean. Being a saprotroph, it is mainly found in decomposing plant matter, grassy areas or growing in woodchips/mulch.
Notes:
I found it in a bush in Te Kauwhata, New Zealand, growing amongst woodchips.
