Field Notes

Description:

Small, climbing plant. Leaves made up of leaflets that are oblong with a needle tip. Small, pea-like purple flowers (other colors do occur).

Habitat:

Disturbed ground near an archery field in Cedar Creek County Park, New York.

Notes:

Edible (leaves, young shoots and pods can be boiled and eaten as a green, leaves can be used as a tea substitute. Used as fodder for horses and cattle.
