Field Notes

Description:

Small owl, pint size, with ear tuffs. make a soft whirring call. Normally it is gone till winter, but it has returned and kicked out the nesting squirrel because of a severe cold front has moved into our area.

Habitat:

This little screech owl has used this flicker box for the past two winters. We have a Great Horned Owl in the area and this small flicker box seems to give it comfort.

Jemma - yes, I feel I am lucky too - however, I gotten to the point that I am now checking every hollow in every tree I see to see if there is an Owl residing there ;)
Yes, you are so lucky! Think I might put up on of these boxes. I was reading that they "like" Starlings, which I have abundance of :) sorry Starlings...
Hopefully I can find another where I have moved. There is a good wildlife corridor and I am encouraged.
