Field Notes

Description:

This bird is mostly brown on its upper body with a light underside. Two bands of black circle its neck. It has a short black beak. It runs around quickly on the ground and makes repeated calls when frightened.

Habitat:

Distributed throughout the United States, they live in open areas, often with little vegetation around. This one nested in a gravel area near a parking lot.
